FROM THE CHAIR …
|
|
As we close out another academic
year, we have many things to be proud of. Our students are increasing, both in
terms of quantity and quality. We have worked hard to recruit the best and
brightest students on campus and our efforts are paying off. Our students enjoy
economics, work very hard at their classes and are a joy to teach. We have a
wonderful community of faculty, undergraduates and graduate students that
enriches us all.
|
|
The Department’s faculty
continue to excel in every dimension. One of our members has received a
University award for outstanding teaching, following a rich tradition in our
Department. Department of Economics faculty are consistently recognizes as being
the top researchers and teachers at the University. |
|
We have several new initiatives:
Certificate Program in SAS, Financial Economics concentration with the major, a
Second Major with Math. All of these initiatives are effective this fall 2006
semester and will broaden our base in terms of course offerings, student
recruiting, and opportunities for students going into either the job market or
graduate school. |
|
We are
saying good-bye to a long-time colleague, Dr. David Ciscel (see Spotlight). Dr.
Ciscel is retiring at the end of this spring semester, but will continue to
teach for us in the spring semesters in the post-retirement program. |
|
It’s been
an exciting semester—a lot of changes and challenges. We wish you the best and
hope you have a pleasant summer. |

Julie Heath, Chair |
